How our calculators work

Every calculator applies the rules for the 2026/27 tax year: a £12,570 Personal Allowance, Income Tax at 20%, 40% and 45%, and employee National Insurance of 8% and 2%. The sources behind each figure are listed on our tax calculation sources page, and our methodology explains how we build and test them. The calculations run entirely in your browser, so the numbers you enter are not stored or sent to us.

We make mistakes occasionally, and when we do we record them. The changelog lists every correction and update with its date, and our editorial policy describes how content is researched and reviewed. Key calculators are reviewed by a UK-qualified accountant, and the site was founded by Rasika Gamage.

What these calculators do not replace

The calculators give estimates based on standard assumptions: a standard tax code, one source of income and no unusual reliefs. Scottish Income Tax, student loans, pension arrangements, benefits in kind and other income can all change your actual figures. Treat the results as a guide for planning, check them against your payslip, tax return or HMRC account, and speak to a qualified adviser before making a significant financial decision. See our accuracy and disclaimer page for detail.
