Our Mission
PayToolkit was built on a simple belief: everyone deserves access to accurate, easy-to-use tax calculators without having to sign up, hand over personal data, or pay a penny.
We saw a gap in the market. The existing tax calculators were either:
- Behind a paywall — requiring subscriptions or one-off payments
- Outdated — still showing rates from 2-3 tax years ago
- Overly complex — designed for accountants, not everyday people
- Data-hungry — demanding email addresses and personal information before showing a result
PayToolkit does none of that. We built 21 specialised calculators covering every major UK tax situation — from self-employed sole traders to pensioners planning retirement — and made them all completely free.
Why PayToolkit Exists
Understanding your tax position is one of the most important financial skills you can have. Yet the UK tax system is notoriously complex, with different rules for:
- Employees on PAYE vs self-employed workers
- Property investors vs holiday let hosts
- Parents claiming child benefit vs couples using Marriage Allowance
- First-time buyers vs landlords buying additional properties
- Young graduates repaying student loans vs retirees drawing pensions
Most people don't have an accountant on speed dial. They need quick answers to specific questions like "How much tax will I pay on my side hustle?" or "Should I form a limited company?" or "How much stamp duty do I owe?"
That's what PayToolkit delivers. Accurate answers in seconds, with the full HMRC methodology explained so you understand where every penny comes from.
Our 21 Calculators
Every calculator is updated with the latest 2026/27 HMRC rates and covers a specific tax situation:
💼 Self-Employment (7 Calculators)
🏡 Property (6 Calculators)
👪 Family Tax (3 Calculators)
💰 Personal Finance (5 Calculators)
How We Calculate
Every PayToolkit calculator is built on official HMRC rates and thresholds for the current 2026/27 tax year. We use the same formulas that HMRC uses, including:
- Income Tax bands and Personal Allowance taper
- National Insurance thresholds and rates
- Student Loan repayment thresholds for all 5 plans
- Stamp Duty Land Tax bands for England, Scotland and Wales
- Capital Gains Tax allowances and Private Residence Relief
- Pension tax relief at source, salary sacrifice and net pay arrangements
- Statutory redundancy pay caps and age-based multipliers
Trust & Transparency
PayToolkit does not collect, store, or sell any personal data. All calculations happen in your browser — no information is sent to our servers. We believe tax tools should be as private as they are accurate.
Some pages contain affiliate links (clearly marked). If you click through and sign up, we may earn a small commission at no cost to you. This helps us keep the calculators free. We only recommend services we genuinely believe are useful to UK taxpayers.
